Around 25,000 residences in south-east Queensland were left experiencing outages on Monday's dawn after powerful weather events impacted the state, generating strong winds reaching over 100 km/h.

Large Ice Stones and Extensive Damage

Homeowners reported giant hailstones measuring up to 7cm in some areas. Meteorological experts verified that various areas across Queensland had been hit with substantial ice precipitation.

Meanwhile, around 1,000 energy customers in the southern state also faced power outages after the capital city recorded its wettest day in a year and a half.

State Emergency Services received nearly 600 requests for assistance across the region, mainly for building damage but also for downed trees and inundation.

• Wyndham region - nearly 180 calls for assistance

At the height on yesterday, in excess of 28,000 power users in the state were lacking electricity.

Meteorological Predictions

Humid circumstances were predicted to continue along large portions of eastern Queensland this week as a weather pattern continued to draw in moisture against the shoreline.

Tomorrow was forecast to be the heaviest precipitation period, with persistent severe weather risk expected across different parts of both areas.

Medical Alert

Medical authorities alerted that there was an increased chance of epidemic thunderstorm asthma across the state's northern country region, particularly given the ongoing climate situation.
